Yes its a thing! Yes it is real! Yes it is good!

In 2007 we developed a completely Vegetarian Black Pudding. It won best Vegetarian Society Best Breakfast Product, but that wasn’t enough for us, we went the whole way and made it Vegan too.

Vpud - Product Shot 8.1

How is it made?

We are frequently asked how it is possible to make a product vegan when the traditional versions main ingredient is blood.  We use our same award winning recipe but we remove the blood and fat and replace it with a mixture we have developed.  a protein substance that mimic the consistency of blood and we use beetroot for colour.  All the ingredients are still to the very best quality, no artificial and no chemicals.

Is it made in the same factory?  How can I be sure its meat free?

Before the V Pud is made in our factory it receives a full deep clean, all surfaces and machines are microbiologically swabbed to ensure there is no trace of other ingredients.  The ingredients for the V Pud are stored separately to avoid cross contamination and the staff change uniform before production begins on the V pud.  Its completely Animal product free.

Why Make a Vegan Black Pudding?

We believe everybody should be able to enjoy black pudding, we also make a Gluten Free version.

Is it Veg society approved?

Yes it is, and has been every year since we have made it.

You state in your ingredients list that you use palm oil, is that not a bad thing?

‘In some regions, oil palm cultivation has caused – and continues to cause – deforestation. This means that land, which was once predominantly covered by primary forest (forest that has never been touched by man) or which housed protected species and biodiversity, was cleared in order to be converted into palm oil plantations.’

The V Pud does contain Palm Oil, it makes up a small part of one ingredient we use.  However we ensure we only use products approved by the the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). The RSPO has developed a set of environmental and social criteria which companies must comply with in order to produce Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) These criteria are put in place to reduce the negative impact of palm oil cultivation on the environment, wildlife and communities in palm oil-producing regions.  We will not use a product that has not got this certification.

What can I make with it?

The V Pud is a really versatile product.  It can be sliced and cooked on the grill, in the pan as with a Traditional black pudding slice.  It can be crumbled into dishes such as risotto, pasta.  You can spread it on toast, roll in to Meta balls ( well meat-free balls), stuff into mushrooms, peppers.  It can be anything you would like it to be.  For Great ideas on how to use the V Pud you can go to our recipe page, or if you have a great recipe lease send us pictures and we will pop it on our site for others to enjoy.
